Dr. Celum is an infectious diseases epidemiologist and clinical researcher, with research interests focusing on HIV prevention trials to find effective strategies to reduce HIV acquisition and transmission. Dr. Celum has been the PI of multi-center efficacy trials of genital herpes suppression for prevention of HIV acquisition (HPTN 039) in the US, Peru, and Africa; herpes suppression for HIV transmission and disease progression (Partners in Prevention HSV/HIV Transmission Study and HPTN 039) among HIV serodiscordant couples in East and southern Africa; and the Partners PrEP Study of daily oral pre-exposure antiretroviral prophylaxis among HIV serodiscordant couples in Kenya and Uganda. She is the PI of combination HIV prevention studies to evaluate how to achieve high levels of HIV testing and effective linkages to HIV care and evidence-based HIV prevention interventions in South Africa and Uganda.
